Omo, the matter of those four policemen wey kill six traders for Owode Onirin don scatter everywhere now! You know say when Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) suddenly release these officers, claiming say na self-defence, the whole place just scatter. Even their own police people and human rights activists dey vex pass fire!
Make we yarn the full gist from the beginning. These six traders wey dem kill for Owode Onirin area - them no just die like that o. According to reports, there was serious land wahala between the traders and some people, and police officers come enter the matter. Instead of them to settle the issue peacefully, bullets start flying and six innocent people lose their lives just like that.
Now, anybody wey sabi Nigeria go tell you say land matter na serious gbege for this country. From Lagos to Abuja, from Kano to Port Harcourt, once land matter enter, na there you go see the real definition of 'scatter scatter'. But this Owode Onirin case different because na police - people wey suppose protect us - wey now become the killers.
The Lagos State DPP just wake up one morning and decide say these four officers fit go house. According to the office, them say the killing na self-defence matter. Self-defence for where? Against traders wey dey try hustle for their daily bread?
This kind talk dey make person laugh and cry at the same time. How person go defend himself by killing six people? Unless say these traders get machine gun and rocket launcher, I no understand wetin kind self-defence be that. The whole matter just dey sound somehow for my ear, and I sure say na the same thing other people dey think too.
You know say something dey smell when even police people themselves dey quarrel with DPP decision. One DCP (Deputy Commissioner of Police) don openly show say him no happy with this release matter. This na rare thing o - police people publicly disagreeing with legal decision wey favour their colleagues.
The police hierarchy know say this kind decision go spoil their image more. Already, Nigerian police get reputation wahala, and this kind thing no go help them at all. When your own people dey kill innocent citizens and you just release them like say nothing happen, how you wan gain public trust?
Some police sources (wey no want make we mention their name) talk say the investigation never complete, and the evidence strong say these officers do wrong. But somehow, DPP just decide say make them go house. This kind thing dey make police officers wey dey try do their job properly to look bad.
You know say when Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Femi Falana enter any matter, na serious gbege be that. This human rights activist wey don fight for justice for decades no gree with the DPP decision at all.
Falana talk say the whole thing na injustice to the families of those six traders wey die. Him argue say if police officers fit kill people and just walk free because dem claim self-defence, then Nigeria justice system don scatter finish. And honestly, the man get point sha.
According to Falana, this decision go send wrong message to other security agents say them fit kill civilians and nothing go happen. This na dangerous precedent wey fit cause more problems for the future.
While all these big people dey argue up and down, the families of those six dead traders still dey cry every night. These people wey die get wives, children, parents, and other people wey depend on them. Now wey the people wey kill their breadwinners don go free, wetin them go tell their children?
One of the family members (though we no fit mention name for security reasons) talk say they no understand how justice system work for Nigeria. According to the person, 'If police fit kill our people and government just release them, then we no get hope again for this country.'
This whole matter just dey make me wonder - na justice or politics dey control our legal system? When DPP fit just wake up and release people wey kill six innocent citizens, and even police people themselves dey complain, something dey definitely wrong somewhere.
The timing of this release also dey raise eyebrow. Why now? Wetin change for the case wey make DPP suddenly decide say na self-defence? These na questions wey Nigerians dey ask, and nobody dey give us proper answer.
This Owode Onirin matter na mirror of wetin dey wrong with Nigeria justice system. When people wey suppose enforce law become the ones breaking am, and the system just dey cover them, then we get serious problem for our hands.
If we no fix this kind thing now, e go encourage other bad officers to dey misbehave, knowing say somebody somewhere go cover them. The whole thing just dey pain person say for 2024, we still dey experience this kind injustice.
As we dey follow this matter, make we hope say the voices of DCP, Femi Falana, and other people wey dey speak truth go prevail. Justice must not only be done, but must be seen to be done. Those six traders deserve justice, and their families deserve closure.
