Omo, the drama surrounding the release of those Kuriga school children just dey get one k one o! The Federal Government don come out strong strong to debunk claims wey AFP report make say they pay whopping $7 million ransom plus release two Boko Haram commanders to secure the freedom of those innocent pikin dem.
According to the AFP report, sources alleged say Nigeria government quietly negotiate with terrorists, paying millions of dollars and releasing dangerous Boko Haram leaders from detention. The report claim say this na the real reason why those 287 students and staff from the Catholic school for Kaduna State regain their freedom after weeks of captivity.
But wait o, our government no gree for this narrative at all! Information Minister Mohammed Idris and other top officials don come out to categorically deny these claims, calling them "baseless" and "unfounded." Dem say the children release na result of security operations and negotiations wey no involve any ransom payment.
Now, this na where e dey pain us well well. How person wan know wetin really happen when government dey operate in secrecy? The lack of transparency for how these rescue operations dey work na serious concern for many Nigerians. We deserve to know the truth about how our leaders dey handle security challenges, especially when innocent lives dey at stake.
Some security analysts don point out say the pattern of these "successful negotiations" dey suspicious. Almost every time kidnappers release their victims, government go claim say na through "dialogue" and "security pressure" - but nobody dey explain the details. E be like say dem dey hide something from us.
Abeg, make we reason this matter well. If na your pikin wey dem kidnap, wetin you go do? You go choose principle over life? This na the serious moral dilemma wey our leaders dey face every time terrorists snatch innocent children.
On one hand, paying ransom dey encourage more kidnapping because criminals go see say crime dey pay. E go embolden other terrorist groups to go dey snatch more people because dem know say government go pay. This one na vicious cycle wey fit make the whole country unsafe.
But on the other hand, when we dey talk about innocent children wey never do anybody anything, how person go just fold hand watch? These pikin dem get families wey dey cry every night, parents wey no dey sleep because dem no know if their children dey alive or dead.
Many developed countries get strict "no negotiation with terrorists" policy, but dem also get better security apparatus to prevent kidnapping from happening for the first place. For Nigeria where our security system still dey develop, the matter no be black and white like that.
Some European countries don secretly negotiate with terrorists to secure the release of their citizens, but dem no dey admit am publicly. So e possible say Nigeria dey do the same thing but just no wan admit am because of political implications.
Instead of just dey argue about whether ransom dey paid or not, make we face the real issue - our security system still weak! How terrorists dey penetrate school compounds and carry 287 people without adequate resistance? That one na the question wey we suppose dey ask.
Until we fix our security challenges from the root, we go continue to dey face this moral dilemma between protecting lives and maintaining principles. Our military and security agencies need more resources, better intelligence gathering, and improved coordination to prevent these incidents from happening at all.
What Nigeria need now na honest conversation about security strategy. Government should be more transparent about their methods while being careful not to compromise ongoing operations. We need clear policies about hostage situations and consistent messaging from all government officials.
Also, our leaders should invest heavily in prevention rather than just reaction. Better security for schools, improved intelligence networks, and community engagement programs fit help reduce these kidnapping incidents significantly.
At the end of the day, whether ransom dey paid or not, the most important thing na that those children don return home safely to their families. But we must learn from each incident and work towards building a more secure Nigeria where parents no go dey fear to send their pikin to school.
The debate go continue, but make we no forget the real victims here - the children and their families wey don suffer trauma wey dem fit never forget. That na the human cost of insecurity for our country.
