My people, when we talk about youth empowerment in Nigeria, we don hear plenty talk but see small action. But something different dey happen for some of our most troubled states, and I must yarn you about this beautiful story wey go make your heart glad.
For places like Benue, Borno, and Plateau - areas wey don see plenty crisis and conflict - one foundation called ImpactHub don quietly dey change the game. These guys no just come with grammar and conference; they come with action wey dey transform lives.
The numbers alone go shock you: over 10,000 young people don benefit from their programs. But abeg, make we no just talk numbers - let me tell you wetin really dey happen for ground.
One young man from Jos, Plateau State, wey I go call Musa (not his real name for security reasons), yarn me say:
'Before ImpactHub reach my area, I bin dey think say violence na the only way to settle differences. But through their peacebuilding training, I learn say dialogue dey work pass fighting. Now I dey help settle disputes for my community instead of joining am.'
This na the kind transformation wey dey happen everywhere these people touch. From Maiduguri to Makurdi, young people wey bin ready to carry machete dey now carry books and business plans.
You know wetin sweet me pass about this foundation work? They understand say education no be just about going to school. For areas wey conflict don scatter everything, traditional education sometimes no dey accessible.
So ImpactHub don create alternative learning programs wey fit reach young people for remote villages and IDP camps. They dey teach:
One young lady from Gwoza in Borno State talk say: 'Before Boko Haram scattered my secondary school education, I think say my future don finish. But through ImpactHub program, I learn how to use computer and now I dey run online business wey dey feed my family.'
The most beautiful part of this whole story na how they dey tackle the root cause of many conflicts for these areas. Instead of just giving handouts, they dey teach young people how to become peace ambassadors for their communities.
For Benue State, where farmer-herder conflicts don cause plenty wahala, ImpactHub don train youth mediators wey dey help settle disputes before they escalate. These young people now serve as bridges between different communities.
One beneficiary from Gboko area tell me say: 'I learn say the herder wey I think na my enemy actually get the same struggles like me. Now we dey work together to find solutions instead of fighting.'
Wetin dey sweet me most about this program na say the beneficiaries no just collect and go. Many of them don become trainers and mentors for other young people for their communities.
The foundation don create what dem dey call 'cascade training model' - where one person wey receive training go train ten others, and those ten go train hundred more. Na so the impact dey spread like wildfire.
Make I no lie to you - the work no easy at all. Operating for conflict zones get plenty risks. Sometimes, training sessions get cancelled because of security threats. Sometimes, beneficiaries relocate suddenly due to new attacks.
But the determination of both the foundation staff and the young beneficiaries dey inspire person. Despite all the challenges, the program don continue to grow and reach more communities.
Since the program start, over 10,000 young people don receive some form of training or support. But the real success na for the stories:
ImpactHub success story show us say sustainable change no dey happen overnight, but e dey happen when organizations commit for the long haul. They no just parachute into communities, do photo session, and disappear. They build relationships and trust over time.
The foundation also understand say one size no fit all. What works for Jos no be the same thing wey go work for Maiduguri. So they adapt their programs to fit each community's specific needs.
As we dey look the future, stories like this one give us hope say despite all the challenges wey Nigeria dey face, committed organizations and determined young people fit work together to create positive change for our communities.
The question now na: who go follow their example to reach the remaining millions of young Nigerians wey still need empowerment and hope?
